31 Days of Vulnerability and Growth

500x500At some point between the end of August and the beginning of September, a dear friend and fellow blogger of mine told me about this writing challenge that she was going to start in October. Actually, her words were somewhere along the lines of, “I signed up to participate in 31 Days of Writing, here’s the link, you’re doing it with me.”

I immediately signed up for the challenge and started reading over what the challenge was about, backwards I know, and I even looked at some examples from previous years. The ideas and posts that were shared by the participants was amazing, so amazing that I began to think that this challenge wasn’t meant for me. I began to think that the challenge was meant for those who were better writers, those with better blogs, those who had better topics, those who had better creativity, and the list just goes on, and on, and on, and on. I talked myself right on out of the challenge but I “forgot” to tell my friend I was dropping out.

So on Sunday when she sent a text regarding where she was on putting together her 31 days of writing, I offered up a congratulatory text and thought about how I couldn’t wait to see what she had in store for the month of October. A couple of hours later, she sent another text about the challenge and I had to come clean and tell her I was not going to join her in this writing challenge. Well, my part Cali and part deep-hearted southern girl as she describes herself decided to let go of her California side and went full-fledged Georgia on me. LOL! The lead into her response started with, “Well honey, it isn’t October yet…” Gotta love that girl!

So here I am and I am going to give this 31 Days of Writing a shot! This challenge isn’t about competing with other writers at who is better at doing what. This challenge is about challenging myself, pushing myself into unknown territory, being vulnerable and hoping that on the other side of this, come November 1st, I’ll have grown as a writer and as a person.

So, what will 31 Days of Vulnerability and Growth entail? Stay tuned and you will see.
